Music Monday - "I'm Gonna Be" by The Proclaimers

For other tales of musical adventure, please visit Soccer Mom in Denial.

Last week I posted what many believed to be a sad story. And I thank you for your sympathy. And yes, it was sad at the time, but as someone said, the break-up line was one of the most bizarre (and hysterical) ever, and for what I can mine from that alone, with 20 years' retrospect, the pain was probably worth it. And it was an adventure. So from that romance, I gained "Love Stinks" and the knowledge to avoid future Love Stinkers.

This week, I reveal myself as Nerd Princess of the Universe. For all my (hip) love of U2, Barenaked Ladies, Dave Matthews, John Lennon, each of whom have written simply stunning love songs of one type or another, I felt I had to show some sunshine love this week by revealing my favorite romantic song of ALL time.

And it's below.

Yes, those two incurable romantics, the brothers Reid, better known as The Proclaimers, charged into my life with this powerful, pure declaration of love. Simple, nerdy, determined. And that's my D all over. Er... not the simple part. But he's always been the kind of guy who lets me know just how important I am to him, and yeah, he's also nerdy and determined and funny, just like The Proclaimers themselves.

And, on top of everything else, I get to show some young Johnny Depp through the clip below, from Benny and Joon. And what could be better than young Johnny, the two Scottish lads, and happy memories of finding my one true love!

So, D, this is for you:

Darn it! I can't play video at work. But I now have the song in my head - and it is truly romantic. Also love Johnny Depp!

So many great reactions:

1) This song is a big favorite at our house. It's on my iPod mix called "Pub Crawl," which engenders much stomping and dancing amongst the family.

2) I've only seen Benny and Joon dubbed in French (when we were on that trip to France I mentioned recently). I need to rent it and see it in English.

3) Mary Stuart Masterson looks EXACTLY like my little sister. Really: people used to stop her on the street and ask for her autograph.

4) Q: Can there ever be enough Johnny Depp? A: No, there cannot.

5) I'd love to join you for the WG. I'll read up and see what needs to be done.

I could not agree with Luisa more. There can never be too much Johnny Depp. Ah, 21 Jump Street. Now those were the days of quality TV. lol

I'm really getting into this whole Music Monday thing.

And Jen, in answer to the question you asked on my post: Yes and I'll come up with a list for you. :D

OK, Waayyyy too young for me, but, no, I don't see how one can have too much Johnny Depp in one's day--the roles he takes on and makes his own are just fantastic (and yes, he's a cutie). The clips were a fun addition to the song.

I love that song too! There can never be too much Johnny Depp. When my fiancee had longer hair and his goatee, people used to think he was Johnny Depp. We even got stopped at the Canadian border and the border patrol guy was yelling about how Johnny Depp was in this car! It was too funny!

Ah, what a lovely post. It took me on a sentimental journey (way back) to the release of Sunshine on Leith. Could that have been nearly 20 years ago?! Such happy memories associated with this song - and the entire album.

Must come back and spend some time reading and savoring your blog writing.
