Downs and Ups

Downs - this has been a very disappointing week in the sense that we've had to bury the idea of a long-planned trip. And one reason its down is the U.S. dollar is so. very. down. I'll do more on this in another post. It also explains my less-than-diligent posting this week.

Ups! Many ups in the world of blogging! And warmth and kindness from blog friends really cheered me up as we were going through some rather hard patches on the trip planning front:

First off, sweet Allison, of Soccer Mom in Denial, gave me this very special award:

She was handed this award (which she very much deserves) for making a difference every, single day. (Which she does).

I would like to pass this award on to Anno, who's written a very courageous five-part piece over the past month. It has to do with the foibles of youth, and mistakes that she made long, long ago and has tried to explain through this amazing, beautifully written story. For her courage and honesty, both through her story and through the way she lives her life every day, I'd like to present Anno with this award.

I was extremely rich in friendship that day, because I received this

from Alex Elliot, which I pass on to these wonderful bloggers, in no particular order, just because I have to send a big, old Mwah! your way: , Jenn, Anno, Leslie, Blooming Idiot, Betsy, Goofball, Wholly Burble, Jan, Mariposa, Cable Girl, Carol, Luisa, Alex, and Painted Maypole. And I'm probably forgetting a slew of others, darn it!

and this lovely

from Mariposa.

I don't want to cheapen the award, or the lovely thought from Mariposa, but this one I must pass on to ALL my regular readers, along with all those (check 'em out under the blogroll!) whose blogs I visit daily. You all really DO make my day!

I really enjoy reading your blog! I meant to list your blog name instead of your name. Sorry about that.

What wonderful awards! I can't imagine anyone more deserving of every one of them. For your inspired writing and your inspiring friendship ... here's a big ol' MWAH! coming right back at you!

Thanks, too, for your mention of my First Kiss series. This was a tough series to write (and post) -- your support means more than I can tell.

I'm sorry about your trip. Maybe we could swing a visit to the Wine Bar? Not much of a substitute, but perhaps a small consolation?

Awwwww... thanks for the MWAH, Jen! You made my day... but then your faithful comments make my day just about EVERY day!

Mwah! right back at you! And thank you for sending it my way.

I'm sorry to hear about the cancelled trip--perhaps time will swing the opportunity by you again and all things will fall into place.

And congratulations on all your awards--they are richly deserved--and I agree 100% on anno's heart-touching posts, she certainly deserves the award you've passed on to her.

I couldn't agree more with your choice for the Hits the Mark award. I'm glad receiving it gave you an up during a tough week. To have to let go of a trip is one of the worst things for me.

Hang in there - the Writing Game is THURSDAY!!!

You know I share your down about the cancelled trip. What a shame. But good things still coming your way I am sure.
Well called on passing this award to Anno. She is an absolute hero of mine. I am so glad to have made her acquaintance in this world and couldn't agree more with your words about her.
Thanks very much for the passing of the sweet awards. You are to kind Jen and I deeply appreciate your support and your friendship.

awww... shucks. thanks.

sorry about your trip. the us dollar does suck - we learned that the hard way in England this summer. ouch.

Thanks for the big smacker.

We cancelled two trips this year because of the weak dollar. Each would have been wonderful in its own way and we sadly had to tell friends we couldn't visit them.

On the upside, we saved the money and are going to spend it exploring the US this year which we have rarely done. Next stop sunny Miami!

I'm sorry you have to put off your trip. I hear you though. My sister and I were planning to go to London and Paris this summer and we've just decided it's better not to right now due to the weak dollar. We're trying to figure out where else to go.

Know what you mean about the dollar unfortunately. Congrats on the awards! You do deserve them all!
