Singular Saturday: When the weather is crisp and clear, I love to go to the

I second that emotion!

I found asparagus, rhubarb, fresh eggs and greens! I'm still waiting on spring onions. I couldn't find any organic rhubarb, but maybe next week, Anno.

I'm fine with the weather hot or colder, just as long as it's a gorgeous day. I go even if it isn't, though.

What's the Farmers Market scene like in Chicago?

mmmm... nothing like a good farmers' market. We have one or two of them around here, but the local produce is not at all the sort of stuff I used to be able to get up north.

Whacha picking up?

Not good produce down in Miami? What's down there? I'd long for lemons, limes, etc.

Up here we start slow and build to real variety by mid-July through the end of September.

As I said above, mostly rhubarb, asparagus and early greens right now. I also have cilantro, thyme, rosemary, dill, chives, mint and an heirloom tomato growing in containers on my balcony. If I manage to keep these healthy, I may add a couple of other heirloom veggies - probably another tomato plant and eggplant. I like to keep things separate from what I get through my CSA, which is why I don't grow basil. We get, literally, about 10 lbs. of basil each season.

Me too Me too! I love farmers markets i haven't found one in holland yet but i'm sure they have them... I used to love the smell of them in the UK! Heaven!

Kate - that seems so odd to me... there's no market day or city market in Den Haag?

Goofball, what about in Leuven?

We have several here, but one of the better one is near Prospect Park and Union Square Park. I've picked up some good fruits there.

I love the Union Square market, Dru. And the one at 77th and Columbus is right around the corner from my Mom's apartment, so I go there for her sometimes when I'm visiting her.

Farmers markets rock!! A new bumper sticker idea?

I think I just now got the meaning of Singular Saturday...been trying to figure out what the heck it is for a while.

I hear you! Hoping to see some new stuff this weekend. Something more than greens.
