Wedding Mania

Two weeks from yesterday, I will be in the Nashville area celebrating the wedding of my niece, Amanda, to her long-time love, Nickalaus. I'm sure it will be lovely, and I know I will be emotional.

But I kind of wish I would be at this wedding instead:

I have to admit, I got teary at the end. What absolute joy and mania, and isn't that what weddings should be about?

What's the most unusual wedding you've ever attended?

P.S. thanks to my lovely Swedish daughter, Mikaela, for sending me this.

I loved that video. But I wonder: what did the grownups think?

Wow...definitely the most creative entry I've ever seen!

What a joyous beginning -- a day I'm sure they'll never forget! (and if they possess the negotiation skills to talk their friends and parents into going along with this, it looks like a promising start)

Well, Mae - I'm not sure. It didn't seem like they were that young themselves. It just looked like a great deal of fun!

Well, Lilac, think you and CB want to try that?

I agree, Anno. I had enough trouble just trying to get wind-up toys (a hobby both D and I shared) on our wedding cake.

This has been going around by me, too, and I just love it. What a wonderful way to start a wedding ceremony. Weddings should be a fun celebration.

Our wedding was just in our yard, with a big tent and a pig roast. We played baseball, had a bonfire. Very casual. Very fun.

Sounds like my kind of wedding, VS. Mine was pretty formal. I also didn't feel like I had a lot of say in it, due to family pressures - and I didn't care that much - I was just glad to be getting ready to live life with D.

ha. amazing vid. i actually ran a wedding once that ended much like this. it was pretty modern all the way through but ended very upbeat, dancing out the door...was pretty amazing. wedding should be great celebrations.

I couldn't agree more, Brian!

That was a good one! If you want to see one of the "last dance" (Gawd, that sounds ominous! LOL), check out "wedding dance" and "Brubaker" on YouTube.

Wind-up toys! I still collect them -- it would be great if you did a blog post about them some time. With photos or even videos of what they do.

wow now that is a way to start a wedding. love it, how fun.

I did not have a formal. small family wedding on a river with a friend playing the Madalyn and my sister and Nikos sister witnessed (best man and maid of honor )

Mike and I watched this the other day and even he admitted it made him teary. As for me -- well I cry at anything, so....

Great clip.

I always cry at weddings. Very unusual way of getting married :)

Hmm I don't seem to share the general feeling here.

yes it's a great video to watch, probably contageous when present as well. it's similar like the dozens of crazy opening dances that are out there and that would probably get me cheering and clapping as well.

And yet it gives me a very alienating feeling. As much as I hate the formal orchestrated wedding ceremonies where everything is timed and serious and planned not leaving much room for spontaneity, fun or improvisiation....this is a bity similar at the other end of the spectrum: also orchestrated & timed, organised and artificial. The fact that the people remain sitting for 4 minutes before standing up and clapping proofs that at first they also sit as if watching a fun circus act. They are spectators.
I wonder how the atmosphere continues in this service as the wedding vows are still a beautiful but solemn moment and not a crazy joke.

Anyway, I'd never have considered doing something like this on my wedding. I just rather wanted to walk sponteneously & casually among my family & friends. That can be fun & upbeat too.

This has been on all the national feeds and is a hoot. I know I would not have had the guts to do this...my mother would have killed me with her eyes! I can see Goofball's point...you kinda want a certain decorum at that important time in your life...I think I'd do it when the group was being announced entering the reception instead (see, that is the traditionalist in me...OY)

Lilac doing this??? You DON'T KNOW CB!!!!

Chani, I will most definitely do that.

Mae - I'll try to do that - our collection has sort of fallen by the wayside. We had both wind-ups and little figures from the cake. You also collect Mona Lisa things, don't you?

Shayne - your wedding probably would have been my ideal. Some time I should post about mine - it was lovely, but interesting in terms of the pre-dynamics. My father was on a slow road to dying of cancer and my parents saw this as their last, grand party, so it really became their party. I don't have any regrets about that - it was D's and my choice to let them do this, but it didn't really feel a lot like I made many choices.

Oh, Shan, you and me both!

Ivy, I totally agree, but it really touched me deeply.

Goofball, I can completely see your point. As I said, some day I'll post about my own wedding and that might explain a bit further why I loved this approach so much (although it wouldn't work for me).

Hotmama, I found that out AFTER I posted it, lol. I thought I'd found such a rare gem. Ah... the wonders of the internet. And no, I look forward to meeting CB. I was really teasing Specs about that. This doesn't seem her style. ;-)

But this wedding is quite the event! What a great way to celebrate!

At my outdoor wedding, we stood in a circle and sang Somos El Barco. Not quite as hopping as the one in the video.

This video is wonderful. Hmmm. Most unusual. One held in a movie theatre where the bride walked down the aisle to "As Time Goes By." Maybe. But I'm not sure... there could well be another.

that video IS awesome. saw it a day or two ago on FB. No way in HELL could I get my hubby to do that. alas. most of our wedding party would have, though.

my hubby would ALLOW a wedding party to, though.

just 2 weeks ago he performed a wedding in a backyard at a gorgeous home in Alabama... it was just the family and us. Earlier in the afternoon the groom took us out in the boat and MQ got to feed wild dolphins. That's some kind of relaxed for a wedding day! it was awesome.

That is the unusual wedding I've seen, since I've only attended one wedding and it was not unusual at all. Eric would totally do this and I know whoever we pick for our wedding party would, too! So funny... I like the idea of doing this on the way out, too!
Weddings should be great, big huge celebrations that leave you tearful and breathless. Thanks for posting this Jen!

I've watched that video about 20 times and continue to love it more and more.

Burp - I'm with you on this. Loved it!

Meg - my sis did a circle thing, too, complete with earth dance kind of thing. Too bad I was in a mid thigh cast at the time. ;-)

Jeanie - super romantic, but a very different feel.

PM - dolphins? Now that's MY kind of wedding!

Brittany, I'm with you - maybe out even more than in, although the whole thing was great.

Jackie - I will definitely check it out.

Rachel - it's definitely uplifting!
