Fox News: What McCain's campaign staffers truly felt about Sarah Palin

Okay... I'm really going to lay off the political posts. Truly.

I had to post this, though.

Fox News is our most conservative mainstream media outlet. Here is discussion by the "inside" Fox reporter who worked most closely with the McCain campaign about what the McCain staffers thought about Sarah Palin and her competency/knowledgability:

There is no one I know who reads this blog who doesn't know that Africa is a continent.

Here, also, are highlights from the Newsweek "post-election" insiders article that looks at secrets behind the scenes in BOTH campaigns. There are some revelations about Palin's behavior here, as well. Again, Newsweek is hardly a bastion of the liberal news media:

Hackers and Spending Sprees: Highlights from Newsweek's Special Election Project

There is talk about a Sarah Palin run in 2012.

With so many qualified, decent people in the Republican party, shouldn't we, as a country, deserve better?

Thank you for posting the video and link to Newsweek; I was watching Fox News this morning (I like to torture myself) and they are calling the Newsweek piece in particular (didn't happen to mention that Fox News clip) the "sliming" of Sarah Palin and why would they do this?! I thought about writing in and suggesting that for one second, they might consider that some if not all of these things might actually be true and that we deserve the truth--and a better candidate than that.

Further confirmation that this lady was not up to the task of VP. Heck, Alaskans should rethink their choice for Governor.

It's a good thing people will hear and see this kind of thing. It provides some insight into the real character of Sarah Palin. I always suspected she was a "mean girl".

The danger of a Sarah Palin is that she can so easily carry water for the most repugnant factions of the Republican base--the bigots, the religious fundamentalists, etc. She can do it with a wink and an "aw shucks" delivery that many in America are charmed by (remember Reagan?). While she is a source of amusement, my concern is that she gets the last laugh in 2012!

She may run, but I don't think she'll be the eventual nominee. This election showed us that fear mongering doesn't quite work anymore.
(And if that doesn't work, we can all switch parties for the primaries, and vote for anyone but Palin.)

Dear God. She is stupid.

She's cute so she'll use her wink and "small town" folksiness to run again or get a talk show.

If the truth behind that clip wasn't so scary I'd be rolling on the floor laughing!

I thought you might like to see this sign from Goodwill. This really did make me laugh! :-D

Betsy said...

OK, so I'm back, because I can't stop thinking about that clip.

You know, my son could identify all seven continents at the tender age of 6. And it certainly isn't because he's brilliant, but because it isn't that hard to do if you're at all interested in the world around you!

Isn't that a prerequisite if you're running for public office???!!!

LMAO at Newsweeks 'Wasilla Hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast".
God God that woman is an idiot. I would only hope she gets a tutor before the GOP unleashes her onto us again . Or better yet become a pundit for Fox News.More entertaining.
Thank God we have a beautiful. educated family with a diverse world view geeting ready to move into the White House.
And I love your political posts!

Thanks so much Jen, I heard about those articles and hadn't found them yet. During the last part of the campaign, I was hoping you would do more political posts!

Ben, she's just scary on every single level, I think.

Michelle - thanks SO much for bringing it to my attention. Well, almost everyone connected to the McCain campaign is "sliming" Sarah these days, but I think she's brought about every charge through laziness, incompetency and blind ambition.

Yes, Peter, and be scared - be very scared, because, you know, Alaska is right next to Canada and she's watching you.... (Yeah, I DO know where TO is, but I'm guessing SP doesn't, lol).

Couldn't agree more, Chani.

Greg, I have similar fears which is why I posted this.

That's a good strategy, April, but OTOH, I might REALLY want my Democratic nominee - I wouldn't have given up my Obama primary vote for anything, even if I didn't actually get to vote directly for him (don't even get me started on Michigan politics).

Yes, NYC, stupid she is. But even worse - selfish, selfish, selfish. Not what I want in a national leader.

Betsy - the sign was hysterical. I hope she pays up. And yes, her ignorance and the heights she's risen to are truly scary!

be back.. doorbell rung...

SP is a scary woman, and Betsy's observation seems right on target. I kind of like the idea of seeing her as a commentator on Fox News, though...

A colleague actually brought up an interesting point about this: He says he's only half believing these reports because McCain wants to throw Palin under the bus, to make her the scapegoat so he can say his loss was not really his, but hers.

Momisodes said...

Although I'm not shocked (it just reaffirms what many thought of her), I'm really more disappointed about the secrets. We really do deserve better.

Hi, I found you through Michelle at Bleeding Espresso.

I am so glad that Palin will not be in Washington. At the same time, I harbor real fears that she will be back, will have educated herself just enough to sound credible, and that an ignorant portion of our citizenry will find her "adorable" and vote for her.

I watched The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson recently when his guest was Chris Matthews. They suggested that candidates for President and Vice President be required to pass the citizenship test. I think this is a BRILLIANT suggestion that should be taken seriously!!

Glamah, I LOVE the idea of her being a FOX commentator - perfect!

Mae - I stayed away from them only because I felt that some folks were having such a hard time and I'd rather sew harmony, in general, than disharmony, but Palin is just too scary for words.

Anno - I agree - it would give her something to do and pull her out of "public service".

Karen - that's a good point, and I've wondered about that, too, but it seems that those stories are coming from more and more sources. The idea of a Palin in the White House on any level is terribly scary.

Sandy - I agree - I was also terribly, terribly upset by her hate mongering during rallies. I guess that's what bothered me most about her.

Kate - thanks so much for stopping by! I think that's a brilliant plan - I'd love to see our politicians be able to pass the same exam that they expect everyone who wants citizenship to be able to pass. I'd love to see some foreign policy questions on there, too, however.

WHAT?! Africa is a continent?! You elitist liberal and your...facts.

Thanks goodness we said no to her. If they were elected.... Chaos and destruction.

And dragons.

Unfortunately, I don't think we've seen the last of Sarah Palin.

Jen said...

I know, Thisblog - I'm going to hide my face.

Brittany - I kind of like dragons - I'm not sure we should defame them in that way. ;-)

Leslie - that's what I'm worried about.

this video is getting posted on Belgian blogs too and causing a lot of mockery in the comments. yet even in Belgium there's some Palin fans that keep on defending her comment after comment. weird

I think what is even scarier is the fact that after the Republican camp realized that they had made a huge blunder with their choice of VP, they just kept right on steaming forward... with a 72 year old candidate. A candidate who had already had 4 melanomas removed.I bear no ill to John McCain, but really, what on earth was he thinking?

peter said...

Goshdarnit, Jen, there you go again with your liberal bias against us salt-of-the-young-Earth hahkey mahm types who don't put much stock in all that doggone fancy book learnin' since it interferes with our maverickitudinousness and you know the pro-America parts of this great country that we put first understand that what's important is values more than "geography" or "experience" or "literacy" although I understand that they have animals in the country Africa that are real good to shoot at from helicopters, and make real shiny handbags and pointy boots, which a big trailer full of only cost 200 grand, also.

In spite of this, its sad to say, that 69% of republicans said she helped McCain and a just as many polled would like to see her run in 2012

I agree with what Paul Begala said on Bill Maher's program last night: Sarah Palin is good for the Democratic Party. The infighting currently at play in the GOP is more evidence of the party's enfeebled state. It's not like they didn't do this to themselves.

If there are "decent, qualified people in the Republican party" as you suggest (who and where are they, exactly?), let President-elect Obama find a place at the table for them in his administration. Otherwise, good riddance.

Peter is very funny.

Virtualsprite said...

I caught a bit of this on MSNBC last night when I was working out. It is scary, but the GOP was really fighting an upward battle, especially coming on the coattails of Bush's approval ratings. I like the Hail Mary reference... I think that says it all.

All I can say is, thank God Obama won. If nothing else, it will be refreshing to have a president that can speak in complete sentences.
