RIP Sunshine: May 2006 - June 23, 2008

You are my Sunshine
My only Sunshine
You made me happy
When skies were gray
You'll never know dear
How much I loved you
Please don't take my Sunshine away

Here's to the cuddliest, sweetest piggy of them all.
We'll miss you Miss Sunshine.

:( sorry. I had a pet rat I loved! Her name was Morty.

She and Sunshine will play little rodant games together in rodant heaven.

Oh no, I am so sorry to read this. :( Did it come unexpectedly? How are Starlight and Firelight and Moonbeam taking it?

Thanks, Patti and Dingo

Glamah, I love that pic, too. My SIL gave us a W squeeze toy and she was so funny with it.

Sassy, I love that idea.

Goofball - it was very sudden. I couldn't go into the whole story without falling apart, but Saturday night and Sunday day she was happy and fine and playing and then Sunday night her legs didn't work and by midday today the vet had discovered an enormous, inoperable tumor (that was undetectable from the outside) and she had to be euthanized - she couldn't eat, drink, pee or use her legs and she was miserable. We lost Starlight in December and the other two are fine but are clearly confused about where Sunshine is. They keep going to her favorite spots and sniffing.

I'm sorry for your loss.

But it reminds me of my sister's plight. They had a guinea pig named Popcorn. My sister figured it would live a couple years then that would be it. She didn't want him in the first place, her son inherited him from his school classroom when no one else wanted him. After five years, she started leaving the cage door open, hoping Popcorn would wander away. Popcorn always stayed put, much to her chagrin. Popcorn lived to the ripe old age of seven.

Jen said...

Thanks, Mae.

Karen, that's so ironic - Sunshine was young, and we did want her. Absolutely. D is allergic to just about every animal except guinea pigs, so we were delighted to be able to finally have pets a couple of years ago. All our piggies have been genetically connected, however, and each has had really strange health issues, so I think the original breeder wasn't doing such a good job. Poor Popcorn, though, and your poor sister! There are certainly folks who would find guinea pigs to be just large rodents. End of story.

They're quite funny and lovable and affectionate, though, when they live in groups. They're really social animals and often the single ones, like Popcorn, can become, in the words of one of my son's friends: rocks with fur that eat.

Poor little thing! ((hugs!))

she was my favorite, too... It'll be weird to come back when half of the crowd in the cage is gone..

Jen said...

Alex, Becca and Betsy - thanks so much.

Mikaela - and Grandma's too. That figures, right? ;-) She was a sweetie... I'll write you a bit later on the other things.

This just makes me plain sad. So sorry . . . he was a cutie! I love this song. Sing it every night to J.

I'm glad she didn't seem to suffer for long. Tumors stink :(

My sympathy. Big hug.

Jen said...

Laskigal - My mom used to sing it to me every night. ;-)

Thanks so much, Maryann.

"rocks with fur that eat"

LOL!

My sister's kids both have cystic fibrosis, which is why my sister originally thought a guinea pig would be a nice substitute for other critters. But poor Popcorn wasn't what she expected.

I'm glad Sunshine gave your family so many smiles!

I'm sorry, Jen. That sucks. But that's a great pic! Her personality shines through!

Aww, I can hear Sunshine's happy little grunts and squeaks. RIP, little piddy.

Oh, I'm so sorry Jen. The 23rd was the 10th anniversary of my grandfather's death; sad day all around :(

Jen said...

Thanks, Amy.

Virtual Sprite - she was a cutie. And she definitely didn't know what to do with W (like the rest of us!)

Karen - I've always loved that definition by C's friend. Again, if piggies are solo, they're really not as much fun - they need other piggies around. I'm so sorry your sister's children have to deal with that awful disease.

April and Heather - thanks!

Michelle, I'm so sorry for your loss. Those anniversaries can be so tough.
